FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is considered a tourist?

The TDF defines a tourist as someone who leaves their hometown for an overnight stay in Cornwall and/or travels a minimum of 40 kilometres outside of their hometown for a same-day trip.

Where does the TDF funding come from?

The TDF is funded by the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT), charged to visitors on hotel or inn stays at a rate of 5% of the total room cost. The City of Cornwall collects the MAT and provides 45% of the funds to the Tourism Development Corporation of Cornwall, the independent administrators of the TDF. (The remaining 45% of the MAT go to Cornwall Tourism and 10% are used to cover administrative fees.)

Who do I contact if I have questions?

The TDF’s Admin Support is the person you’ll want to contact. They can be reached via email TDF@cornwall.ca or by phone at 613-937-2787 ext. 2285.

What happens if my application is rejected?

There are many possible reasons why applications are rejected. When you receive notification of the status of your application, you’ll be provided with the rationale behind the decision. You can contact the tourism coordinator for further information so you can strengthen future submissions.
